Giraffe Centre

Wildlife

The Giraffe Centre, located in the leafy Lang’ata suburb of Nairobi, is a conservation and education facility run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW). Established to protect the highly endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, the centre focuses on breeding these gentle giants and reintroducing them into Kenya’s national parks. Its main attraction is a raised wooden viewing platform where visitors can come eye-to-eye with the giraffes, hand-feeding them special pellets while learning about their behavior and conservation. The centre also plays a vital role in educating local youth on environmental stewardship. For a unique Nairobi experience, the nearby Giraffe Manor offers the unforgettable opportunity to dine alongside these graceful animals as they poke their long necks through the windows

Rules to Observe

  • No personal food: Feed the giraffes only the pellets provided at the kiosk—human food is harmful to them.

  • Keep hands flat: When feeding, hold your hand flat to prevent accidentally getting nipped.

  • No smoking: The entire centre is a smoke-free zone.

  • Supervise children: Keep a close eye on little ones near the raised platform railing.

  • Follow staff instructions: Guides are there to ensure both visitor and animal safety.
