Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya’s largest and oldest protected areas, offering a raw and untamed safari experience characterized by vast open savannahs, dramatic arid landscapes, and the legendary red elephants that dust themselves with the park’s distinctive ochre-colored soil. Established in 1948, this iconic park forms the larger half of the Tsavo conservation area and is renowned for the magnificent Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow, and the stunning Lugard Falls, where the Galana River carves through rocky rapids. Visitors enjoy exceptional game drives spotting diverse wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, hippo, and over 500 bird species. The park’s permanent water sources, particularly along the Galana River and at Mudanda Rock, attract massive herds of elephants and other game, providing spectacular viewing opportunities. With its sense of wilderness, photographic beauty, and fewer crowds, Tsavo East National Park delivers an authentic and unforgettable Kenyan safari adventure.

  • Keep a safe distance: Do not approach animals too closely—especially elephants, which can be unpredictable.

  • No feeding wildlife: Feeding any animal is strictly prohibited.

  • No littering: Carry all trash out with you—leave no trace in this pristine wilderness.

  • No loud noises: Keep music and voices low to avoid disturbing animals.

  • No pets: Domestic animals are not allowed inside the park.

  • No drones: Drone use is strictly prohibited without special permission from Kenya Wildlife Service.

  • Stay on marked trails: At Lugard Falls and Mudanda Rock, stick to designated walking paths.

  • No flash photography: Especially at waterholes and at night, as it can disorient animals.

  • Carry enough supplies: Water, food, and fuel are limited inside the park—come prepared.

  • Beware of heat: The park can be extremely hot—carry plenty of drinking water for yourself as well.
